|ARCEP Signals Opposition to Break-Up of France Telecom|
The head of ARCEP, the French telecoms regulator, has publicly declared his opposition to the functional separation of incumbent operator France Telecom’s wholesale and retail operations.
Speaking at a press conference, Jean-Claude Mallet rejected calls from rival operators for FT to be broken up, referring to the European Commission’s stated position that such a move was ‘exceptional’. Furthermore, M. Mallet also dispelled the notion that competition is failing to work in the French market; a critical prerequisite to such a regulatory intervention.
