French government to use public money for rolling out rural FTTH | ||
The ‘Great Public Loan’ programme, which the French government has been planning or at least debating over the last few months, could be used for sponsoring FTTH deployments into rural areas. Even if nothing has been decided just yet, this could be a major drive to extending the French FTTH uptake outside the major cities. The upcoming DigiWorld Summit 2009, organised by IDATE, will see a public debate on possible strategies. While some opinions are in favour of a government agency deploying fibre into grey areas, others insist on private local operators and/or municipalities.
