|Italian telcos plan €2.5bn investment in FTTH roll-out|
Vodafone, Wind and Fastweb, Italy's three main alternative telecommunications operators, unveiled on Friday 7 May their plan to roll out a single fibre access network across the country. The project aims to connect 15 major Italian cities within five years, with an overall investment of nearly EUR 2.5 billion divided among all the public and private players involved.
In a second phase of the project, requiring overall investments estimated at EUR 8.5 billion, the network would be extended to cover towns with more than 20,000 inhabitants, reaching about 50 percent of the Italian population.
