FTTH Council Middle East and North Africa

FTTH Council Middle East & North Africa
Having been incubated by the FTTH Council Europe as an ad-hoc working party in early 2009, the FTTH Council Middle East & North Africa is now an independent organisation and fully-fledged Council that can respond to the specific needs of its members.

The FTTH Council Middle East & North Africa is the fourth FTTH Council, working alongside sister Councils in Asia-Pacific, Europe and North America, to promote and accelerate the deployment of high-speed fibre-based access networks to consumers and businesses around the world.

The official launch of the FTTH Council Middle East took place at the FTTH Middle East Conference 2010 in Beirut, Lebanon, on 30 November and 1 December, under the patronage of His Excellency Eng. Charbel Nahas, Minister of Post and Telecommunications for Lebanon.

In response to the demands of several new Middle Eastern members the "FTTH Council Europe Middle East Group" was founded as an ad hoc working group of the FTTH Council Europe at the FTTH Conference in Copenhagen, on 12th February 2009. The initiative represented the next step in a process of extending the highly successful market development activities of the FTTH Council Europe into the Middle East region. The Group was a working party of new Gulf‐based and European Council members.
The Group worked to accelerate FTTH deployments in the region through promotion and education, communicating the economic and social benefits of major FTTH deployments to support the opportunities for FTTH to grow throughout the Middle East.
